I started a Bikram Hot Yoga practice last year and want to share my love for this practice.  Before sharing my personal story, I will write several blogs explaining what Bikram Hot Yoga is and the amazing benefits of mind, body, and spirit you could experience should you try it.

Bikram Hot Yoga is a specific style of yoga that is practiced in a heated room. Bikram Choudhury developed it in the early 1970s, and has gained worldwide popularity. This style of yoga consists of a series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises, and each class follows the same sequence.

The practice is typically conducted in a room heated to around 105 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) with a humidity level of 40%. The heat and humidity are intended to mimic the climate of India, where yoga originated, and create an environment conducive to deep stretching and detoxification.

The series of postures in Bikram Hot Yoga is designed to work every part of the body, including muscles, joints, ligaments, and internal organs. The sequence is structured to provide a full-body workout and promote balance, strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance. The postures are performed to maximize the benefits and help students progress in their practice.

Each class lasts about 90 minutes and is led by a certified Bikram Hot Yoga instructor. The instructor guides the students through the sequence, providing verbal cues and demonstrations. It is important to note that Bikram Hot Yoga is typically practiced in a mirror-lined room to help students maintain proper alignment and form.

Bikram Hot Yoga uses heat helps to warm up the muscles and increase flexibility, while the humidity promotes sweating and detoxification. Additionally, the class is held in a heated room, allowing for a more profound release of tension and helping to prevent injuries.

Bikram Yoga is a style that falls under the broader category of Hatha Yoga.

Hatha Yoga is a classical form of yoga that focuses on physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), and meditation techniques. It is often considered the foundation of many modern yoga styles. Various types and approaches have been developed within Hatha Yoga, including Bikram Yoga.

If you want to add a challenging yet fulfilling practice to your exercise or meditation routine, I highly recommend Bikram Hot Yoga. The benefits to your personal Mind - Body - Spirit trinity are beyond words. Give yourself the experience.
